ABOUT CLAIRE

When the Academy of Music and Sound’s Swindon centre closed down in 2019, Claire received the opportunity to go back for a stint at the University of Gloucestershire but this time as lecturer in Studio Production on her old course instead of a student.

“I was really honoured to be asked to go and teach there. I learnt so much there myself so to be part of the team and considered to have knowledge worth sharing has definitely been a high point in my audio career so far.”

Claire has been hooked on music from a very early age. Her dad was a musician and playing guitar was just the coolest thing in the world. But it wasn’t long before her interest in music grew passed just playing the guitar.

“There wasn’t anyone my own age that I could form a band with, no other kids were interested in that where I was I growing up out in the sticks. So I used to my dads drum machine, a keyboard and an old Fostex 4 track tape recorder to jam out rock and pop songs by myself. I used to work out all the parts to my favourite songs on the radio and make my own cassette tapes. That’s definitely where my interest in recording started!”

Claire eventually went on to study music and music technology at A Level before working as a studio and theatre technician at St John’s school in Marlborough before eventually leaving to study Popular Music at the University of Gloucestershire.

“It was a degree that included everything I loved.  Songwriting, studio production and music business all rolled into one.”

During her time at UoG, Claire gained experience engineering and mixing for BBC Introducing live sessions, Wychwood Festival radio and walked away with a first class honours degree under her belt along with an AVID accreditation in Pro Tools and becoming an Apple certified Pro in Logic Pro X.

Claire now works full time as a producer/studio engineer still based at Western Audio alongside working on her own music in pop rock band All Ears Avow, regularly touring and gaining glowing reviews across the board for their brand of groove laden hooks and energetic live performances.

After university, Claire began teaching songwriting, live music performance and music technology for The Academy of Music and Sound alongside eventually taking on the role of in house engineer and producer at Western Audio Recording Studio.

“I was so lucky to pick up the role at Western Audio. The studio is fantastic and super flexible for me being able to work around my teaching hours, plus the owners and clientele are brilliant there. Working as a producer had been my dream for so long I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity I’d been given there.”
